Angel Tree 2020 is a success! Over 800 families and more than 2000 children and seniors were able to receive Christmas gifts, clothing, and other supplies due to the generosity of our community. Applications for the Angel Tree 2020 began in June and continued through September and, for the first time, families were able to complete their applications online due to COVID. Throughout the months of October, November, and December, donors from around the Atlanta area took time to adopt the angel wishes and purchase gifts, clothing, and other items for the needy children and seniors. All of these were returned and organized by volunteers and staff to be distributed.
On Monday and Tuesday, December 14th and 15th, the Kroc Center of Atlanta launched our Christmas distribution. Cars with representatives from Angel Tree families started lined up early, entering on Fletcher Street, filing around The Salvation Army’s Evangeline Booth College, down Arthur Street and into Kroc Atlanta’s parking lot. By 9am, those families were starting to leave the parking lot full of gifts for their children and seniors. What followed were two busy days full of laughter, aching feet and backs, and proof of the generosity of the residents of Atlanta! Bags were overflowing with items and we are sure that on Christmas morning, the same will be happening and we at Kroc Atlanta are so blessed to be part of that joy!
The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree began in Lynchburg, Tennessee in 1979 when Majors Charles and Shirley White worked with a local mall to provide clothing and toys to local children in need. It has since expanded throughout the United States and provides gifts to thousands and thousands of families every year with the help of volunteers and donors from every corner of the country.
Kroc Atlanta would like to express our appreciation to the donors, volunteers, and staff who gave selflessly of their money, time, and resources so that others in the community could experience the joy and love of the season! We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
