Majors Pierre & Louna Smith

Senior Kroc Center Officers

Major Pierre Smith, and his wife Major Louna Smith, have over 20 years of service as officers with The Salvation Army in the Florida Division. They have served five years Miami, six in Winter Haven, three in Naples and six Palm Beach County

Major Pierre Smith’s education includes the College for Officer Training (CFOT) Atlanta, Georgia, the International College for Officer Training (ICO) London, England, plus a BA from Nazarene Bible College Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a MA from Point Loma University San Diego, California.  Major Smith originally trained as an electrician.

Major Louna Smith’s education includes the College for Officer Training (CFOT) Atlanta, Georgia, plus an AA in Business Administration Polk County State College, a BA in Christian Education from Nazarene Bible College Colorado Springs, Colorado. Major Louna Smith was trained as a nurse.

The Smiths are the parents of two young adults: Jovanie and Lousson Smith.  Both of them are currently working for The Salvation Army. Jovanie works as a Territorial Young Adult Mission Deployment Coordinator and Lousson as an Assistant Divisional Music Director.

Major Pierre Smith many interests include reading and music and Major Louna enjoys events planning and quiet time.

Captain Monica Barney Seiler, LMSW, MACL

Associate Corps Officer

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Captain Monica Barney Seiler, lives in the metro Atlanta area with her two sons, Elijah and Benjamin where she is a corps officer in the South Atlanta Kroc Center.

Prior to this, she was the director and administrator of the Salvation Army’s Social Center in Rome, Italy, where her highlight was working to help empower refugees to begin a new life in Italy as well as partner with outreach programs to those being sex trafficked.  During this time she was appointed as the leader for the Army’s emergency response to the Coronavirus for Italy and Greece.

She has held appointment highlights in Virginia that include:  the administration of the Turning Point Domestic Violence, Sexual Exploitation and Human Trafficking Shelter; the Pathway of Hope poverty-reduction initiative and designed the New Day Center, a community collaborative drop-in center for youth aging out of foster care.

Captain Seiler has also been stationed in Georgia and Tennessee as the Divisional Christian Education Director, corps officer and Assistant Administrator in an in-patient drug and alcohol recovery center.

Before ordination, Captain Seiler served in various community outreach capacities that include her work as a crisis intervention counselor for a women’s domestic violence shelter, bi-lingual social worker with the Army, community partnership liaison to open a Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, and music and creative arts teacher for her neighborhood in Philadelphia. In addition to having completed her training with the School for Officer Training, she earned a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania where she specialized in grant writing and philanthropy and earned a Master’s in Christian Leadership from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. As a volunteer, Captain Seiler traveled to Chile twice to assist refugees of the Pinochet dictatorship and conducted research on social justice and community mobilization. Most notable among her volunteer activities was her founding of a music school on the island of St. Vincent in the West Indies which she ran for four years under the umbrella of The Salvation Army. She enjoys hiking, making music, speaking Italian and loves to cook..and eat.
